Letting a car sit for an extended period of time is worse than driving the snot out of it, mainly because all the fluids settle out and the seals tend to dry rot, everywhere in every component. That said if you suspect an oil leak at the valve covers that would be a good place to start as I often start high with oil leaks and work my way down lower till the leak is repaired.
