a few things… Make sure you do not have some previous mechanics improvised exhaust hangers… do not trust that the part store knows what hangers are for your vehicle and instead go to the wreckers and compare.
i found muffler cement and used that. it works way better because it cures as you drive and you dont have to wait. the system works OK, but it clanks a bit. I think that is because i used some bailing wire as i havent been out to wreckers yet. Also i think that i have a leak around the engine compartment, or at least before the cat, which is still making some noise. im not going to go under again till i get the new hangers. it is like two interlocking springs, fyi. and the muffler one is a hook on a piece of rubber. The dealer manual which i am lucky enough to own, has all the parts described nice, so i know exactly what SHOULD be there…
on the bright side, it seems hard to f up really. even though it moves around somewhat i am pretty sure, it hasnt cracked or fallen apart. I always think car parts are more fragile then they are in the end.
And thanks eric! I do wish i had the resources to have one of those fancy torches. I pretty much just own my car, and not space to work on it. I cut it off with 1) breaker bar 2) dremel 3) PB blaster 4) brute force and 3 hours
