I have long had problems with this car burning oil like a puddle of water in the sun–I always refilled and did frequent oil changes.
Recently, the check engine light turned on and it’s kind of sputtering. It seems to want to turn off but keeps the rpms just high enough to keep it on.
The car lost massive power and smelt of burnt metal as I made my way home, all while the Check Engine light blinked up a storm (first time happening, any previous time, it simply stayed on)
Upon check up, the exhaust system rattles with a sputtering sound, no white smoke is coming out the back. All fluids, except oil are at a proper level.
Oil is practically empty (but this has happened many-a-time before and never gave me this sputtering problem).
I took out the plugs and they looked TOASTED. They dripped some white calcium-type hardened deposits resembling sand, and they smelt of the same burnt smell I explained above.
The #3 plug used to always get full of oil, but that wasn’t the case this time (maybe cuz there was almost no oil). I haven’t changed the rubber o-rings that seal the bottom of the valve train from the plug chamber (I did this on a prelude and screwed up the valve lash, and well, the rest is history)
I’m trying to get my hands on an OBDII reader so I can get the trouble code, but in the meantime, I was hoping some of the wisemen here can point me in the right direction as far as a preliminary diagnosis.
Input is greatly appreciated fellas.
