I have long had problems with this car burning oil like a puddle of water in the sun–I always refilled and did frequent oil changes.
Recently, the check engine light turned on and it’s kind of sputtering. It seems to want to turn off but keeps the rpms just high enough to keep it on.
The car lost massive power and smelt of burnt metal as I made my way home, all while the Check Engine light blinked up a storm (first time happening, any previous time, it simply stayed on)
Upon check up, the exhaust system rattles with a sputtering sound, no white smoke is coming out the back. All fluids, except oil are at a proper level.
Oil is practically empty (but this has happened many-a-time before and never gave me this sputtering problem).
I took out the plugs and they looked TOASTED. They dripped some white calcium-type hardened deposits resembling sand, and they smelt of the same burnt smell I explained above.
The #3 plug used to always get full of oil, but that wasn’t the case this time (maybe cuz there was almost no oil). I haven’t changed the rubber o-rings that seal the bottom of the valve train from the plug chamber (I did this on a prelude and screwed up the valve lash, and well, the rest is history)
I’m trying to get my hands on an OBDII reader so I can get the trouble code, but in the meantime, I was hoping some of the wisemen here can point me in the right direction as far as a preliminary diagnosis.
Input is greatly appreciated fellas.

Honestly man, it sounds like you ran it out of oil and toasted the bottom end. The stuttering was probably the bearings failing… Regardless, get the code and let us know what it is… Also, a blinking CEL usually indicates a failure of some sort that is damaging the catalytic converter. If the bottom end was locking up, and the car was trying to stay running, it may have been just dumping gas in to keep the RPM’s up, causing a super rich condition that would lead to cat destruction.

Welcome to the forums.

I agree with Beefy.

I would refill the oil and check oil pressure but running a engine without oil is just asking for trouble and catastrophic failure.

I hate to say it but I agree, sounds like you need an engine, the dead give away is the deposits on the plugs and no oil reading on the dipstick along with the rough running, this is a pretty clear indication of oil consumption caused by a worn out engine and the only fix would be a replacement engine, don’t try and rebuild it as it would cost a great deal more and if you don’t have experience rebuilding Honda engines then you’re probably going to do more harm than good.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate your input… I’m still trying to get ahold of someone with a reader….
I was afraid of your guys’ responses…
Such a great car, and I screwed it all up by being so careless these last few months… I’m an idiot…
I’ll let you guys know if anything new comes up. :'(

Do you fellas know where I can find a F23A4 I can trust?
Also, a little beyond my scope, does a different engine fit in there, like maybe a K series or B-Series or something? I’ve read a F20B can find space in there. Any Suggestions?

If you are looking for a used motor try this company – risingsunengines.com personally I would replace the bad one with the same type in order to save massive headaches.

I often use this to search for engines and other parts.
