Does the car have a rear sway bar? If so, I would inspect the links first. Also the strut and strut bearing. Here’s a good video on finding suspension noises. The same should apply to the rear, even though the demo is on the front wheels of the car.

Thanks for posting that link Beefy. I myself am noticing a noise from my rear suspension going over bumps in my Element and I suspect it has something to do with the struts or upper strut mounts I just haven’t had the time to check it out to make that determination however. BTW the CRV and Element are built on the same platform meaning under the skin both vehicles are the same.
If you do find the struts or upper strut mounts to be the problem I would strongly recommend you stick with Honda parts because I have yet to find any aftermarket struts for Honda’s that work as well as OE.
