Hey, i have an 03 s-10 4×4 with a 4.3 vortec and it is losing coolant. I think the coolant is going out the exhaust but not sure, the exhaust has a strong smell and a lot of white smoke when i first start it but it goes away in a few minutes. My first thought was a leaking head gasket, so i did a compression test and all the cylinders came out around 150 psi. there is no signs of water in the oil, and the engine has significantly less power than it should. any suggestions on where to look next would be greatly appreciated. GM vehicles are known for the lower intake gaskets

believe its a head gasket. the power loss is from
the coolant into the cylinders. what did the plugs
look like?The intake gaskets are known for going bad. I had the upper and lower intake gaskets replaced on my 2001 chevy s-10. There was a clear visual leak in my case. If this ends up being your problems, make sure you clean the intakes and change the oil afterwards.
I would pressure test the cooling system, and look for the leak. It’s demonstrated in this video:

What did this problem turn out to be? With white smoke on start up that goes away after the car heats up, it sounded like a head gasket.

Great post. You can also use a block tester to see if there is combustion gases in your coolant if you want reassurance.
Do you have a CEL?
Yep, check the intake gaskets, they seem to go bad all the time causing the symptoms you have. My video on checking the cooling system has already been posted by the good people on the forum, thanks guys.
