      I have replaced the fuel pump on my Integra about 4 times in a few month period. The last time the pump started messing up it sounded weak when I would turn the key on. Eventually it stopped priming when I turned the key on so I tested it by putting direct battery voltage to it worked. I wound up running a wire from my radio to my fuel pump so it would get power with the key on… This worked for a few days then the fuel pump died completely. The main relay is in working order, I have replaced the sock each time I replace the pump, and the fuel filter is brand new. Every time the pump goes out for good I do test it and can confirm the pump is dead. I also removed the tank completely and can confirm it is not dirty. Any ideas as to what could be my problem? I could be more descriptive if need be.

        In the 10+ years I worked on Honda’s and Acura’s I’ve replaced 3 fuel pumps. 2 of those were aftermarket units. It’s a common misconception that the fuel pump is at fault when the fuel pump doesn’t work. A little diagnosis reveals that it’s actually not getting power due to the main relay. Main relays on the other hand go bad on Honda’s all the time. That’s where you might want to turn your attention. Also, aftermarket fuel pumps for Hondas are often crap. I’m sure an OE is out of the price range however. More info here.

          what brand pump are you using? Does the pump burn up or seize?
          It maybe the aftermarket pump. Not running the tank dry?

            I had a life time warranty on the main relay so I went ahead and got a new one. I did test it each time the pump went out and it was in working order. The main relay was brand new (had been installed for 2 days) when the pump died the final time. Also, the final time the pump died I did bench test it with a battery and it didn’t kick on when I put voltage to it.
            The first 3 were cheap Airtex pumps. The fourth pump I installed was a slightly more pricey Delphi pump. I typically run my car with 1/2 – 3/4 of a tank at all times.
            Is there anything else I should investigate that could be causing this problem?

              You can actually repair main relays BTW.

              I can’t stress enough how an OE Honda pump is the best way to go. In fact, I’d recommend a used one over a new aftermarket one. That said, do you have proper power and ground at the pump itself? If so, there shouldn’t be any problem. Otherwise you might want to do a voltage drop to see if there’s a short somewhere.
