Hello, I’m new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or knowledge at all before I go to the auto mechanic soon. I recently bought the car and noticed the engine knocking sound on a cold start. After the engine warms up, the noise is significantly less loud but it is still noticeable. I recently had the oil changed and the mechanic just said it might be better after the oil change and that it could just be normal engine noise. The sound is exactly like the one in the Youtube link below.

Thank you all for the timely responses! The Accord has approximately 120k miles and the Timing Belt was recently replaced at around 96k.

You might need a valve adjustment as suggested but I’ve heard that noise a 1000 times and to me it sounds normal. Just make sure you use the correct viscosity oil and I DON’T recommend running synthetics. You might also check the timing belt tension, if it gets loose it can cause some engine noise as well and if it’s been a while since the belt was replaced I would recommend replacing it and resetting the tension and then recheck for the noise.
Doesn’t sound severly abnormal to me. You may want to do a valve adjustment as suggested, but it’s not a knock, it’s just valve train chatter in my opinion. It happens with the miles.
