Hi everyone I’ve got a 2001 Hyundai Accent GL with the 4cyl 16 valve 1.6L engine and the check engine light is on and shows two codes. one is the upstream O2 sensor and the other is P1401 and everything I’ve looked up on line shows it’s the vapor canister. I was wondering if this is accurate. I tried to look it up on this site but there was nothing for a

Found this poking around some Hyundai threads. I didn’t see the pics linked because I’m not signed up for the forum. Maybe that’s your post I found? 🙂

How many miles are on the car?
Did you inspect all the wiring going to the sensor?
Do you have any exhaust leaks?

Welcome to the forums and my search also pulled up the same link as Beefy.

Keep in mind that MIGHT be your problem, the code actually indicates a leak in the tank side of the system so the canister is not the only place it could leak and set that code. Normally you use smoke to find leaks like that but I realize that’s not always possible. Good luck and keep us posted.

The Car has 107,000 mi on it and there are no leaks in the exhaust and the wiring is ok. I haven’t had much of a chance to go and look at anything on the car because of the holidays. But I have done some research so I know where to look for the canister just incase it’s that. And as far as the O2 sensor goes I’m not to worried about that as the car’s not on the road yet and it’s an easy fix and in an extremely good location (rite on top of the exhaust manifold with nothing in the way of it at all) but I will be sure to keep every one posted.

Ok this is possibly my final update on my car. I found out what the part is and what it costs. First part is called the DM-TL which stands for the Diagnostic Module for Tank Leakage. The kick in the groin was that the cheapest I could find the part was about $280. I only paid $400 for the car BUT it also needs a windshield, headlight assy, airbags, and an O2 sensor. The total for me at that point was roughly $500 for the parts (that includes labor on the windshield but I will install all other parts) But this is already going to take me a couple months. So my verdict is that I’m going to look at the DM-TL try to clean it and see what happens. If that still doesn’t solve my issue then I’m going to sell it for parts as the engine and transmission are great along with a lot of other things in it.

Have you thought about trying a used/junk yard DM-TL?
If it’s a good car and you have less then a $1,000 bucks in it I’d say thats a good deal.

I would however, there’s nothing around me at all. None of the local junk yards have an accent which I find odd as I see them all over the place here.

So I’ve decided to keep the car and I’m starting to buy the stuff I know I need. Just gonna keep doing research on the DMTL before I go and buy a new one.

                          Quoted From rhsimmons92:

I no longer have the car as I found more and more issues with it and I couldn’t afford to keep it so i junked it and got $300 back for it (I paid $400 for it) and I got a new car (the 1990 Volvo 240DL)

                          Those Volvo’s will run forever.

My 760T with the BF230FT had 220k on it until i sold it to a military guy. My 89 244DL with the basic BF230 had 190k miles on it.

I love those vehicles. My suggestion to you is (if you have not already done this yet) is to replace the flame tramp and the breather box.

A great Volvo forum is Turbobricks.com.

Yeah I had the 93 240 wagon it was my first car and I loved it. A bolt was dropped in the timing case and a few months later the timing belt was cut and it bent valves and it wasn’t a good thing.. I unfortunately had to junk the car as there was no fixing the engine. I love the Volvos they are a very safe car and as I have a new child I feel comfortable with him in the car. And thanks for the tip on the breather box and flame trap!

Volvo does make a good car, thanks for keeping us up to date. I just wish we would have been able to find and solve the issue. Good luck with new car.

As do I but I also had to think of my family. A car that has been in a bad enough accident to deploy the airbags must have had something to its structural integrity so who knows what would have happened had we ever gotten in an accident.

I avoid anything that’s been in a collision mostly for that reason but I’ve also found that cars that have had significant body damage also tend to have electrical issues as well as air and water leaks, more trouble than they’re worth in my opinion.
