      my 02 caravan has all the shifter numerals and another red light lit on cluster and won’t start or run without my innovation code reader plugged in to it, and when I do that, it makes the cable to the reader hot. as soon as I unplug it , it dies.

        It sounds like a ground issue. check your grounds.
