i have a 2004 accord with 109 on the clock and the issue i have is i kept getting multi check engine lights for misfires found out there was a reflash to the pcm to fix that issue but honda tells me it only was to help the computer rethink how it accepted the misfires which i think is bs

well after a good amount of money to honda lol for some work and a good bill of health i get told the fuel is due to the lowering kit who ever had it before me put on it its so low that its causing the back to drag threw off the alignment which i found out on the freeway on the ride home from the dealer so time to save up and look for some used springs to save a little .i’ll keep every one posted

Wow, thanks for posting the fix. Was the car this bad on fuel when you bought it? Good luck man, and mark the stoplight green before Dreamer and his stoplight nazis come for you 🙂

Interesting indeed. Thanks for posting the fix and using the ETCG forums!

Yes, very interesting about what the real issue was with your gas mileage. You might try this link for some used springs. They are located in North Carolina so it might not be worth your while as far as shipping costs even if they have the parts. Just a suggestion…

I’m a little confused by this but a car that has been lowered might have other modifications as well which could effect fuel mileage (like a reprogrammed ECU) OR it could be an indication of how the car was maintained, meaning it could have been abused which can wear out parts prematurely causing a drop in fuel economy. I also can’t stress enough how important good tires are to fuel economy as that effects rolling resistance, cheep tires =cheep results. Keep us posted.

^Maybe the lowering efforts previously somehow adversely effected the fuel economy relative to the aerodynamics? Great tips on tires and keeping them inflated, generally 1 PSI per 10 degrees, so I check my tires once a month or after drastic temperature changes.

^You know that hit me as well, but it could’ve been a bad lowering job. lol

Anyway, I think the ideas of seeing what the fuel trims are like currently might reveal a bit. Could be a lazy sensor but wouldn’t surprise if it was a performance tuned ECU.

Actually that might improve aerodynamics, think LeMans race cars.

That said I suspect you’re dealing with the ‘modifications’ of someone else and to be honest the only way to really know what’s happening in there is to take a look at the live data and fuel trims to see where things are, they may have installed a new ECU to run a different fuel map for performance purposes.

It’s not likely to be a lazy sensor if the PCM is working properly, if that was the case it would set a code as the later model systems are very good at picking up a lazy O2 but the fuel trims will tell the story I think.

^Ah, right on. That makes total sense as older system like on my car have to basically have a dead sensor before a code is set, especially with the age on this older tech.

well i ended up buying a used service manual and an going to try and find out if i can reset the pcm my self because im a a loss honda says the fuel trim is normal nothing with the engine ,cars lifted to normal i mean the only think i can think is that v6 hates me because i only maybe put 6 miles a day on it lolor honda’s lying hoping i’ll break some thing and there get to fix it which i dont believe . one question i do have is do the scan tools actually know if the o2 sensor are really working or is it a quick test it runs ?maybe a clogged cat car does stink if i lay on it hard for a while .some day maybe i need to swap it to a 5 spd turbo diesel engine there i’ll get the good mpg.
