Hi,
I am a first time poster but I have been a fan of your videos for some time now.
I am currently trying to sell my 2006 Nissan Sentra but there is a nagging noise coming from the from suspension when I hit rough pavement that is making it rather hard to get anyone to buy it. The noise seems to happen when I am going into a pothole or manhole cover but not on the impact coming out of it. It will also happen on my way down off of a speedbump. I live in Burlington, VT where both speed bumps and potholes are plentiful so the noise is constantly a part of my driving, as well as the driving of any prospective buyer.
I have taken it on several occasions to a mechanic that I COMPLETELY trust and he cannot find anything wrong with the suspension. My Sway Bar links were on the old side so I replaced them on his recommendation (I did the work not him)and the car is still clunking along each time I hit a bump. I saw on your suspension noise video that you said that it could be a shot motor mount but I don’t know how to check that myself. Also, my mechanic said that he “strongly doubts” that that is the case. I have looked at the mounts that I can find myself and they all appear to be intact, but I do not really know what I am looking for.
We have also ruled out brake calipers that are allowing my pads to vibrate and cause the noise in question.
Other than this issue the car is in pristine shape, but this noise coupled with the fact that the car was in a front end collision early in its life is a death sentence for any potential offer on my car, especially since I cannot give any prospective buyer an idea what is causing the noise.
So, needless to say I am at a loss. Can you come up with anything else that could be causing the noise? Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
