I completed my engine (D16A6 replaced by SOHC ZC with intake from original engine) swap for my 91 CRX Si.

The engine fires and warms up. (seems to idle a little low, around 500 rpm; and maybe a little rougher than my D16A6. But, the guy I bought the ZC from said he put a bisimoto cam for a little more performance.)

Once it’s warmed up, it will die at idle and won’t fire without giving it gas.

      Things I’m currently looking at:

      • vacuum leak (new 3.5mm tubing and 12mm flex socket to retorque the intake manifold are “in transit” here 4/27)
      • maybe, a problem with charcoal canister
      • the electric fan on the radiator has never worked (the fan motor is good); probably the fan relay near the battery

      Other info:
the previous D16A6 ran like a top.

Plugs at 235.5 miles since tune-up (gap plugs, new air filter, adjust valve clearances, set timing).

        Idle status:

        • initial cold startup: okay, maybe a little rough and low (around 600-700) for the first 10 seconds, one 5 second rev to 1500 and idle is stable at 1200
        • from cold to 1/3 of way to normal temp: idles at about 1200 (which is good)
        • from 1/3 to normal temp: have to watch the idle (engine can stall if the ECU doesn’t catch the idle falling off too quickly)
        • the engine warms quickly to normal temp (1 mile, approx 3 minutes from my house to freeway onramp; normal for my car)
        • after 5 or 6 minutes at normal temp: idle is very stable at 500-600 RPM (a little rumbly and low due to bistmoto mild performance cam)

Overall the engine is running very well.

I might be looking at a fast idle solenoid problem based on info above.
(I’ll check and clean its wiring connection today.)

Still looks like you might be burning a little oil. I’d be looking at the idle components such as the fast idle valve and the idle adjustment screw as it sounds to me like they are out of adjustment and the computer is trying to compensate, OR it’s trying to correct for a mixture issue such as a vacuum leak.
