[b]Long story short: how do I locate the camshaft sprocket cover on my car?

I would like to take care of the irritating noise I believe to be caused by the timing chain guides and tensioner, as discussed here.It seems like a simple enough job, but however, I can’t seem to see clearly where the camshaft sprocket cover is located. Virtually all of the discussions about this noise are about this engine (KA24DE) in RWD cars such as the 240sx, which seem to have the distributor, for instance, in a different location. I would really prefer to know the location of everything before I start removing parts.

Do you see where your oil cap is? it is in that general area under your valve cover… When you remove the valve cover you will see the cams… and the camshaft sprocket…

Most altimas have a two part timing chain. It is in my experience, a lot more work than you may think. There is an upper timing chain, then a mid engine gear then a second timing chain going to the crankshaft. A link or two can come loose from the chain, causing it to drag inside the cover, causing the noise.
