Please help asap, as I am stuck at work. As I was pulling in to park, the drive axle broke at the boot, close to the transmission, on the passenger side. I have replace them before and know how to do it but that was when they were still intact and not broken. Two questions, is this going to make it difficult to take out or pretty much the same way as if it were still attached? and do you think from it breaking that it caused any damage to the transmission (auto) or anything else?

It depends on what is left in the transmission. If there is enough then removing is just or even easier than with intact axle and transmission isn’t damaged. If there’s almost nothing left it can be nearly impossible to remove and transmission may already be damaged. Your picture isn’t good enough to know. You need to take picture of transmission from underside or at least picture of inner joint from side.

ok, I will take more pictures in an hour & half when i get off work. the joint housing is still on the trans, and you can see the balls at the end of the boot (the part still attached to the wheel)

The inner stub should just come out of the transmission as if it was still in tact. For that to happen to an axle is very unusual. I would be checking for broken engine mounts or suspension problems before replacing the axle or it might happen again.

ok, thanks, i will check. last month I was doing the timing belt and then had to do it a second time because the crank senor went a couple days after, the driver side was jacked up for a few days because it kept snowing, im thinking that probably had an effect on it. I was already planning on doing the whole suspension anyway but was waiting for warmer weather 🙁 bad idea that was

If there isn’t broken engine mounts or suspension problems check length of axle maybe old axle was just too short. Cause if something isn’t broken or wrong there isnt space for joint to come apart unless joint housing (part where balls are in) is shattered.
