      99 Ford Escort. Stopped running. Started but would not keep running. Boyfriend said there was coolant in my oil pan. I think it might a be the coolant temperature sensor, or thermostat. He thinks it is something major.

        Temperature sensor, or thermostat are not usually a cause for coolant in the oil pan.
        More likely suspect:
        Faulty intake gasket
        Faulty head gasket
        Cracked or warped cylinder head
        Crack or warped engine block
