I have had a never-ending battle with my 01 civic. After about 20 minutes of good hard driving, the car shuts off and cannot be restarted for about 30 minutes. We have found if we take out the coil packs and allow them to cool the car starts faster. So, the packs are getting really hot and there is no firing. Not a car mechanic so I have had them all changed, all my sensors changed (cam and crank), new radiator, new transmission, new everything you can imagine. They tried to sell me a new engine, computer…name it. I’m in the carribean so it’s really hard to find a good and trustworthy mechanic. I’d rather investigate myself first. Suggestions??

This is not a simple diagnosis…
If the coil packs are over heating….
One possible cause is that they are being signaled to fire at times when they shouldn’t be.
You will need a scope to see the signals to the coils and see if they are being falsely triggered.
Then, if they are you’ll need to back trace from there.
