Hi, I just returned from a vacation of 3 weeks. I started my 1997 honda civic and the check engine light came on. First start was a bit rough. I did the paperclip trick and got two CEL codes:

72: Cylinder 2 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire
74: Cylinder 4 Misfire or a Random Misfire a condition is present that is creating a cylinder misfire

My vehicle has only 240,000 km. The spark plugs were pretty close to needing a change.

    My questions:

    1. What is the most likely reason ? What is the first thing I should do? I am guessing replace the spark plugs ?
    2. I shouldnt drive the car ?

    Thanks, Julian

Usually after vacation I warm up the car well by driving it around then do a few hard accelerations close to the redline. That fixes my rough engine. Your spark plugs might have fouled up. If it doesn’t get better doing a spark plug replacement is a good start also check the condition of the plugs respective to the cylinders.
