hydraulic clutch release

      I have a 2006 gmc canyon the clutch doesn’t hook up till the last 2″ of pedal travel at the top . my question is as a clutch wears with a hydraulic clutch slave will in engage closer to floor or closer to the top.?

        There should be 3/4 to 1 inch of pedal travel before the clutch disengages. This slack space is there to prevent the release bearing from spinning continuously. As the clutch wears, the clutch will disengage closer to the top of the pedal travel, until is slips constantly. When there is excessive pedal travel as you describe, that is usually the sign of a hydraulic problem. Check the fluid level, try bleeding the slave cylinder. If that doesn’t help, you may need to replace the slave or master clutch cylinder.

          thanks for the response, what makes you think it is a hydraulic problem opposed to the clutch disc being worn out? the truck has 41,200 miles on it and this truck uses a concentric slave cylinder, so either way I guess I might be removing the trans. It would be awesome it all it needed was to be bleed out but the reservoir is full and the system has never been opened.

            Why? Because if the disc were worn out it would be disengaging near the top of the pedal. You say you have to press it almost all the way to the floor to disengage.

              the situation is the truck wont move till the clutch pedal is at the top of the travel. the trans mission shifts fine thru the gears .

                Ok, I misunderstood, I apologize. In that case, the clutch disc could very well be worn almost to its service limit.
