About 7 months ago to car started misfiring. I changed my spark plugs, HT leads and coil pack which fixed the problem.
Recently the car has started misfiring again.

I’d rather not spend a load of cash replacing all the components again. Could someone tell me the most likely failed component?

      thanks.

          It’s a 2003 Ford Fusion (European style) – 1.6 Petrol (gas!)

The misfire hasn’t become severe enough to register any faults as yet but it is getting steadily worse.

It may not be so much about replacing parts as it is diagnosing the issue. There are many things that can cause misfires. I cover them, and how to find their causes, here.

Also, not all parts are created equal. If you used ‘cheep’ parts, that could be the cause of early failure if you find them to be the problem.

            Keep us posted.

Well, i changed the coil pack but this didn’t fix the misfire so I changed the plugs which turned out to be the problem.

I did notice oil on one of the plugs. I assume this is the result of a failed piston ring???

Perhaps it’s time to get rid of this old thing!

Oil on the plug could indicate a lot of things, but usually a mechanical problem with the engine. You might want to do a compression test to see if the compression is low on the cylinder that had the fouled plug. If there’s a mechanical problem with the engine, you need to address that first. A video on compression testing as well as other tests and procedures can be found at the link I gave you.

Good luck and keep us posted.
