I have had a p0430 code on my 2008 Dodge Magnum SXT 3.5L V6 for over a month now. I know it refers to Catalyst Efficiency Bank 2 problem. I have looked at every other p0430 post in the forum, along with Erics video, and I did not quite get all the info I need for my car specifically. I changed both downstream sensors, the spark plugs have roughly 20,000-30,000 miles on them, and the code remains. I am now accepting the fact that the converter needs to be replaced. I basically just need to confirm a couple things in order to make sure I’m ordering the right part, and solve the problem and pass inspection…

      1. Bank 2 is the Passengers Side.
      2. The Bank 2 converter is the one that needs to be changed. (or could it be any of them?)
      3. This would be a suitable OEM sub if in fact the right side converter needs to be replaced. (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/magnaflow-df-converter-49246/10606176-P)

Thank you very much, in advance.

The p0430 is for bank 2. If cylinder #2 is on the passenger side which I believe it is
then that is your cat. If there are no exhaust leaks then most likely the cat is not cleaning
the way the computer would like to see it. I can’t guarantee This cat will fix the po430. Magnaflow
is a great brand but are not equal to the OE cat that came with the car. I know on the Asian cars
people change the cat and still get the code. The American cars don’t seem to be as sensitive to
the aftermarket stuff. It may work or you may still get the code. Call Magnaflow directly and talk to
them and see if they can guarantee it will solve your problem. I don’t want you to go through the money and
labor to have the same problem. I think dodge has an 8/ 80,000 warranty on the cats.

Agreeing with College man, you have to be careful with aftermarket catalitic converters, some PCMs can be sensitive to aftermarket cats, so… before installing a aftermarket one it good to do some research

On my car it is very popular to install a aftermarket exhaust, free flow cats are a popular install, sometimes the PCM doesn’t like them and a code is thrown, there are some devices you can plug into where the o2 sensor is supposed to be that tricks the PCM, but i wouldn’t recommend installing those ether.

I find that after market cats are hit and miss. A direct fit is usually the best and comes with both cats depending on the car and even sometimes they are not perfect as well as expensive. I would check with a dealership to see if they are still under emissions warranty. Depending on your location you might have mandatory emission laws and will likely need to be replaced to pass emissions.
