It is a 1st gen Mazda3 1.6 2008, rear right caliper makes a noise when braking while reversing. Only happens when brakes are cold and reversing only. If I try braking with the handbrake, it’s quiet. The handbrake is on the pad and not a mini drum.
It recently got a rear brake job (discs and pads) and noise started right after. I was on a very tight schedule and I never did any service on this car, so I just asked friend’s shop to do it for me.
The noise is more of a honk than squeal. Loud and pronounced, like a semi truck braking, not a sedan. Could that be a piston rubbing the pad? Or maybe the piston should be backed out a little further? I always put a very thin film of copper grease on the piston face and pad guides on my car. The shop manual for the Mazda3 says no grease between the inner pad and the piston should be used. The inner pad has sort of a spring arrangement where it contacts the piston, but in my book I would always thinly “embalm” all the springy parts and contact areas, at least to keep them from rusting.
Any ideas? Thanks!
