I use MAPP gas at home – it is pretty good for taking out rusty bolts I also have the same for propane – did not see huge performance difference between the two. But I have access to acetyline gas – there is so much you can do with acetyline gas than map or propane – if you can find a good system under $500 it would be well worth it. It is little bit dangerous as acetyline gas isn’t very stable and it may explode under certain conditions.
If you are looking to heat rusty bold, go with map. But you want complete shop solution (cutting exhaust components, welding, melting busted bolts out) acetyline is way to go.
Here is a comparison – taking rear Honda sway bar links out for replacement (the end gets rusted and is impossible to hold the end link with hex as they strip out)
with MAPP – not possible. you will have to use vise grip, and takes about 30min to hour per side.
Acetyline gas – cut the bolt ends and breaks apart in 5 minutes per side
