I have no idea if this can be related but I want to throw it out there cause it didnt begin to do this till the HVAC Controls stopped working (Cant turn on the blower, AC, nothing) I checked every fuse and they all are good. I tried another assembly I had laying around and same thing.

Mostly I drive back and forth a max of 10 miles, and always got to operating temp, i never really notice overheats but the day it did fail was a day i drove more then my usual amount and was in traffic.

I also jumped the engine coolant temp switch (At the thermostat housing) and still no fans turn on. Tested the fans and they both turn on when applied direct 12V. Checked the relay as well and its good and also used the one next to it that works the power windows which is the same type as I knew it was working.

I checked continuity/resistance from the fan control module’s green wire to the green wire of the temp switch. Seems to be fine (.03 if i remember after taking out the probes resistance).

All i haven’t checked yet is the ground and the green wire to the relay which I’m going to check soon.

OK bleed the system of any remaining air. It did bubble for a little bit then stopped. Left it idling for 10 minutes but same thing the fan never turns on and started to rise to the midway point. For whatever reason the radiator fan isn’t working right.

If i shut the car off the radiator fan turns on like its ment to when its high as it gets. So the fuse, and relay i believe should be good. Is there any way to test the coolant temperature sensor to see if its the reason my fans arn’t operating when the engine is running?

I now know why, it was still leaking fluid (and transmission fluid as well) cause the hose clamps were loose. Made a mistake there tightened those and fixed that. Also the reason it overheated in the first place is Im missing a bolt on the thermostat housing I never noticed was missing, causing a slow leak till i didn’t notice it, then the pressure must have blew the radiator. I added a bolt and just refilled the trans with generic ATF (I know I know bad for Honda’s its only so I can drive the thing home then ill replace it with proper Honda ATF Fluid. Its better then it running dry) and will see if this fixes it for now.

Well some good news and “bad”.

Checked everything from timing to EGR, all was good (i did have to clean the EGR, it was 100% clogged). Took it back and still failed (NOx went down a little), well, ended up being worn out catalyst. Replaced it and now:

Was hoping it wouldn’t be that (Mechanic told me to begin with it was the cat, but expensive repair so wanted to see if anything else would bring it down)

                Thanks all for your help.

Thought I would update this post to let everyone know, ended up selling the car to a friend, just way too many problems then what the thing is worth, and being I was able to buy a 95 Accord in way better shape just didn’t see the need to shell more money into something that already cost me $1500 in repairs and don’t like lol. Least i got it for free!

The new owner fixed the hunting idle but sadly I have no idea how. Least it has a better home now then it would have with me.

Still haven’t checked on the idle issue yet as i been busy, I’m a bit more worried about the following issues and it took me forever to capture it on a video.

I get a very loud whining noise at times while moving, mostly when turning the steering wheel ever so slightly.

Here’s a video of the sound:

Also when turning left I have a thumping sound, more like “thump…..thump…………thump”. Checked struts and all seem fine, pushed on the left and right front and comes back up like it should. Could this be the CV Axle? The boots look fine, havent checked to see if it had play yet as I don’t have a jack to lift the car up.

Well 1 out of 2 issues fixed, least I can drive it without a darn stall every stop light!

The reason the idle was so rough to the point of being a massager and stalling out was Cylinder #3 had absolutely ZERO compression (all the valves in Cyl #3 were bent) which made since cause the previous owner botched the timing belt, so it needed a valve job which i ended up doing.

Still has the hunting idle but I’m thinking that it might be the FITV so gonna check that first.

Tomorrow I’ll be taking a look at this, but thought id post a video showing the issues, also forgot to mention sometimes when I start the car the car stalls outright cause the RPM’s go way too low (from 1000 to 200).

Note: That air intake I’m taking off tomorrow and replacing it with the stock airbox, so if that ends up fixing it that be a plus.
