I have 2002 Tundra Limited V-8. Has 158k on it still runs great. However, the Airbag light on the dash came on about 2 months ago. I have a scanner but I am not getting codes! I am guessing that either the airbag system is not connected system or have just have a bad light. The seat belt light goes off when connect the seat belt.
Do you have any suggestions with this issue?

Evidently it does not. Does the body computer had a different port? Do I use the same port under the dash but I need a more able scanner or a different scanner?

The body computer uses the same port but it usually takes a higher end scanner to access the body, chassis, hvac, abs etc. computers.
Hi Arnold. Most basic scanners will not get into most airbag systems. The problem could be as simple as a shorted wire under your seat leading to the weight sensor or seatbelt. Please find someone that can scan this for you. When that light is on, your airbag system will not function. A very common cause for an airbag light is your clockspring in your steering wheel. If you can’t honk the horn or work any of the accessories on you steering wheel, this is probably your problem. But please have this looked at right away. God forbid you get in an accident and your SRS system doesn’t function. In fact, if you are anywhere near Chicago, I will scan and diagnose it for free! Good luck, Aaron
Aaron thank you so much. All the accessories on the steering wheel are functioning fine. Now I know where to look. It also appears that if I want to keep this vehicle going I will need a better scanner.

You can pull the codes yourself…
Turn on ignition Key On, Engine off and wait 20 seconds then jump the two pins in the picture and watch the air bag light. It will blink the trouble code with a 2 digit number. Fast flashes indicate first digit, brief pause and fast flashes will indicate second digit. A 2.5 second pause will separate codes, when all codes have been displayed a 4 second pause then it will repeat all the codes.
The connector is your regular data link connector.For example: a flash flash flash flash flash PAUSE flash PAUSE would be a code 51 – Short To Ground or Earth In P Airbag or explosive module Circuit

Mr. Karl thank you so much for that quick short cut by jumping the ports. However, based on your directions I received 5 different codes. After reading the definitions it appears I have a host of airbag problems which seems a little odd. When it cycled the codes I received.

and then it would repeat those codes in the same sequence. At the same time the ABS and Cruise control lights where flashing as well. I have malfunctioning Sensors and Shorts on both sides. Seems odd that I would have the same issues on both sides at the same time. Anyway if you have more thoughts on my issue they would greatly appreciated.thanks
ArnoldMaybe this could be power delivery issue? Check airbag related fuses and make sure they have good contact.

To really trace it out you will need an electrical schematic and see where all those circuits come together where you could get an error like this.
You can get access to ALLDATA for one vehicle for around $17 or so and get all this info online if you are so inclined… Be aware, safety must be taken into consideration when tracking down Airbag issues..
Anyway… My guess would be the Airbag Control Module is bad…

Yeah I am beginning to come to that conclusion as well. I am way to rusty with wrenching to start playing with airbag issues. I would hate to launch one by accident. Is there an after market for the module or is it a dealer (bend over) part?

I’ve seen low system voltage cause issues like this. Computers speak in the language of voltage. If system voltage is low, computers become incoherent and start setting all kinds of codes. I recommend you check the battery to make sure it’s in good working order. I’d also recommend you check the connections because they can also cause issues like this. Clean them if they’re dirty, and make sure they’re secure. Once you know you have a working electrical system, clear the codes and see if they come back.

Thanks, Battery connections are clean and green. I have another Toyota tech honing on code 31. That tells him that it is the main airbag sensor under the radio on the floor in the console. It is a dealer part unless you can find one in a junk yard which I don’t I would take a chance on it is a $511 part. Don’t want an airbag going off prematurely or by accident when I swap out the main Airbag sensor assembly. I am afraid as much as I despise the dealer I am going to have to bit the bullet. It is pcs of Safety equipment.
