Electrical Issues
Electrical issues are a mystery to many DIYers, as well as some technicians. I think it’s because you really can’t see or touch electricity in the same way you can with other working components on your vehicle. Sure, we can see the effects of electricity, or the lack of effect in the case of a failure, but we can’t necessarily put our hands on it like we can with other vehicle components that might fail. For that reason, we need to have a basic understanding of electricity and how it works in automotive systems before we get started.

So…I bought this 2011 V8 Citadel with 90k on it Oct 9. Towed my 4800 lbs Airstream for an 1.5 hours to Road Atlanta and back no problems. Got the oil changed on Wed 10/25, then got a uhaul trailer and started down to middle ga. After 45 min, the first thing to happen is the blind spot deactivation light starts flashing, then the traction control light comes on, then the engine light comes on (steady not blinking), then the windshield wipers start going, no blinkers work, lights on the stering wheel button flash and go out, “service allwheel drive” comes on, emergency brake light comes on and sometimes starts flashing. The vehicle still drives but can’t turn off the wipers (squeak, squeak, squeak until I’m about to go crazy). I was out of town until Friday (today) and went by where I got my oil changed and they let me go underneath to see if something got hit or tweaked but everything looks normal and of course “it’s just a coincidence” that I didn’t have any issues for 16 days until I got my oil changed and now it’s a shit-bucket. When it’s hooked up to the diagnostics, it doesn’t read correctly because the fuses are hot and everything is going crazy.

The problem is that when I crank the engine, it engages for a few seconds and then stops before it has cycled enough times to start the engine. To start the engine it usually takes several tries — often a half dozen tries before it starts. Heat or cold doesn’t seem to effect it much.
Yesterday, it took 30 cranks to get it to start. Any thoughts?

1994 honda accord ex 2.2 crank no start. i was given this car. i figured i could let my daughter learn how to drive in this car. put a used engine in the accord, drove the car for a good while and i parked it to use as a back up until my daughters ready. i went to start the car one day and crank no start. i left the car in the on position and all of the sudden….. i heard a click, check engine turned off and fuel pump started priming. tried to start the car and it started and ran great. turned off the car and crank no start again. i want to know if you may be able to get me info to test powers and ground for the ecu. i have no communication to ecu. i tried to leave the car in the on position like i did before and it worked once but never again. i changed the main relay and nothing. please help lol thanks

2006 2.7 chrysler sebring, won’t turn over, removed starter, tested good, hooked it up without installing it, bendix pushed out & it spun. Installed it, now it just spins but doesn’t engage. Its like it tries to for a split second then spins freely. I did use the shim. 12.8 volts at the starter battery terminal. Unknown volts at the solenoid terminal. Any suggestions?

Watching the video on replacing the alternator on your Element, what would be the next step if you do have power on the white/ green wire?
