      hi,

My honda element (130k miles) seems to be dropping a cylinder (or two) and runs very rough when i first start it up. after about 8-10 seconds /or after a good rev it clears up and runs fine?

no oil or coolant smoke from the tail pipe. no coolant in the oil, etc. Doesn’t seem to matter if its a cold engine or warmed up.

wondering how to track it down…. electrical?, low fuel pressure?, plugs/wires?

      thanks.

A quick test to see if it’s losing fuel pressure while turned off is to turn the key to the On position for 2 seconds before starting it. Does doing that affect the starting behavior?

Your spark plugs were due to be changed at 110K. If you don’t know if or when they’ve ever been changed, it’s a good place to start diagnosing. Just remove them, visually inspect them and, if possible, measure the gaps out on them. The specified gap is .039 to 043 inches or 1.0 to 1.1 millimeters. If the gaps are a lot wider than that, you can just use it as an indicator that the plugs are worn out.
