I have 1996 Honda Accord ex coupe m/t. It all started about 2 weeks ago, I drove home in the rain. Then let my car sit for about 36 hours and my shifter seemed stiff like it didn’t want to go in or out of gear and got harder to shift each day til it wouldn’t go into gear at all. But when the car is off the shifter moves freely. I checked the master cylinder reservoir and it was almost empty and my master cylinder leaked out all the braked fluid by my pedals. I replaced my master cylinder with a new Exedy OEM spec master today and the I can get into gear barely and I bled it for a good 2 hours. I was wondering what the next thing to check would be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you replaced one component, the best course of action is to thoroughly review the installation procedure and assure that it was installed properly.

If that fails to yield results, the next step would be to examine the associated external components. Things like, the shiffer linkage or cables, slave cylinder (if it’s external) and properly make any adjustments that can be done. The easiest way to diagnose mechanical issues, is to rule out components.

There could also be one of 2 problems at play here. Either the clutch isn’t working and it will just grind, which you should be able to mechanically feel or hear, or the linkage itself is having an issue and not physically shifting the transmission.

The clutch is not disengaging, making it (near) impossible to shift..

I see you already found and fixed the problem with the master cylinder, but perhaps the bleeding of the clutch system was not successful?

I just got a chance to rip it apart, and lube all the bushings under the hood, and couldn’t find any problems, but the the shifter was still stiff, so i brought it to aamco. They told me my syncros are worn out and gave me a quote for about 2800 to put new syncros, bearings, gaskets, and a clutch

Before you lay out that kind of cash, I would replace the clutch slave cylinder. They are fairly inexpensive.
