Hey guys!
New to ETCG, but I’ve been watching a lot of his videos, seems like a real down to earth tech who knows his stuff.
Anyway, just bought a used 1998 Camry with the 2.2 I4, pretty cheap, ‘low’ mileage (100,500) with a couple of issues so far. One seems to be that while my A/C was engaged, at idle in gear, the A/C clutch would cycle on and off over and over, almost like the idle was too low and the ECU was compensating.
So, I figured look into the IAC, which I heard can clog up, especially around that mileage.Low and behold, took my Throttle body off, and, well, it was a mess.
As you can see from the picture, the IAC passage was *packed* full of what I could only guess as dried coolant.
The IAC on this car has a small coolant passage, and only an O-Ring style gasket keeping it from leaking into the air passage itself.
Looks like it also covered the back of the throttle blade.
I cleaned it out the best I can, and it helped with the idle, but now I’ve got a P0505, so it looks like either a thorough cleaning or new IAC.What do you think Eric the Car Guy?
