A family member has a 2000 grand am that is only blowing heat right now. A couple times I felt the air getting cooler for a few seconds and then it was piping hot again. I’m assuming this is because coolant is being allowed into the heater core all the time. MY questions are what are the possibilities here and how difficult are they to replace? If I have to take apart the whole dash I probably will not be attempting it myself… Thanks for your guidance!

I’ve never done any AC work but could be the compressor is bad. I assume the blower still works fine on the AC settings even though it blows out hot air? Some will say might need freon which I guess is true but other things could be the culprit here as well. A pressure test on the AC system could help determine if the pressure is sufficient. I’ve never done one but Eric has a video about it, I’ll try to post a link to his youtube video on it. You could probably borrow an AC pressure test kit from a local auto parts store for a fee or deposit if you wanted to start there. Keep us informed!
