2002 ford engine tick

      my 2002 f150 v6 5speed has developed an engine tick after its warmed up to operating temps……..i did a little experiment and changed to a heavier weight oil and the tick subsided…….bad lifter? poss stretched timing chain slapping timing cover?

        It probably is a lifter that is getting old but I’m cautious of running it with thicker oil for too much time as on cold mornings it can starve the top end and cause more problems. You might try some of the ‘additives’ that can help free up a worn lifter but I haven’t had too much luck with these, personally I would live with it till I felt like putting a cam a lifter set in there but I’m not too motivated to fix my own stuff if you catch my drift, a worn lifter isn’t much more than a nuesance in my opinion.

          +1 on using thicker oils. Always stick to what the manufacturer recommends for your vehicle.
