Hello guys! new to the forums here. I have a 2004 ford taurus SEL 3.0 OHV 12v. I just changed the starter on it and now when i start it up the Brake Light, ABS light, Gas cap light, and Door Ajar in the message center stay on. If i turn the car off and restart all lights go away.. What could be going on? Never had this problem before. Everything works perfectly even with these lights on. I have tried unplugging the battery letting it sit over night and plugged it back in.. started the car no lights.. But the next day lights are back on.

Is the battery in good condition? The abs module lives under the battery tray.
check to see that battery corrosion did not get to the connector or module.
You may want to have any codes read to further the diagnoses.

battery was replaced 6 months ago. Like i said none of these lights were ever on before the starter replacement. And they shut off if i restart the car. I have a pocket code reader. No emission codes and nothing else shows up on the reader. Its a pain.

Did you disconnect the battery when replacing the starter? If not, did you touch any of the wires to metal during the replacement that may have caused some sparks?

That was the first year for the Taurus Can bus system and it was very critical to low voltage to the speedometer head. Also the alternator used on that car had issues with the voltage regulator bolts coming loose and causing the alternator not to charge to specs. How to check your alternator: http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/ford/3.0L-3.8L/how-to-test-the-alternator-1 …. You stated the battery cables were tight / no corrosion and the battery was good…double check….

The ABS and Brake light on,check the fluid level in the master cylinder first.Low level of brake fluid will set them off.
