ok so i was driving to work then i tried to put on the cruse and it was acting retarded always changing and i look at the speedometer and it wouldnt stay still, and i know its not jumping at different speeds, but whenever i was at a complete stop in the past it always was wierd, would jump up to 100 mph and back down when i started to drive, but today it wouldn’t shift, it was jerking and in the past it would slip on the highway would jump up a few rpm every once in a while, but now it wont shift, and the spedo stopped working and then when i drove home it said ” power steering” and the trip odometer just had dashes, so i replaced the TCM and i got the trip odometer back and it didnt say “power steering” but it wont shift, is the transmission output speed sensor bad? or are the Clutches fried in the transmission, but why would i only be able to go into first gear on second, cuz there would be 2 clutch packs, on low/reverse clutch and 2-3 clutch pack…please help i dont have much money and i need it for work. i dont want to replace the trans just for it not to help.

Start with the wheel speed sensors or the output shaft sensor. The transmission is electronically controlled. It reads inputs from multiple sensors to determine when and how to apply shift pressure(which would be the output). If one or more of the sensors are out of wack you can get what you are experiencing. I doubt it’s the tranny itself. You say you can only go into 1st and 2nd? The solenoid could have gone out in that case for 3rd and 4th. I suspect a sensor/electrical problem….hook a scanner up to it and tell us what you come up with.

EDIT: Also check the fluid level and condition. If the clutches are toast it may be brown/black in color and have a burnt smell to it.

You can get a code reader from sears(I believe the name is actron) for 40 bucks. You can also got to Autozone and they will read it for free.

Check it for DTC’s, I am sure a 2005 with have codes in several systems. This will give you a starting point.
