got a nissian titan that i am replacing head gaskets in truck, i thought i was a decent mechinic until now. i have bought the chilton manual an it is sending me in circles. i cant get the front cover to break loose an book tells me i need to remove oil pans to get them off. is this true or can anyone provide me with a link to tell me how to do this or am i screwed, thanks in advance.

Richard Kirshy thanks for your help, but my lap top will not let me load any of these, do you know if oil pan has to come off to get front cover off
It appears the front cover does have the oil pan mounted to it with the four front oil pan bolts.
Now, if you can remove just the 4 bolts from the oil pan and manage to remove the cover or if you need to remove the oil pan all together I can not say.
My thought is you most likely can just remove the 4 bolts but there may be issues in doing that.
First issue is will you damage the oil pan gasket when removing the timing cover.
Second issue, will you be able to reseal both the timing cover and oil pan.
My suggestion there fore would be to drop the oil pan to remove the timing cover and while in that far it would not be a bad idea to replace any internals behind the timing cover since your in there.IE timing chain, guides, tensioners, phasers etc.Richard Kirshy, I got it off, I ended up cutting the one pan bolt in front into. I can notch an shorten the new one to get it back in. But my new problem is the chains only have 1 gold link in each chain an I am sure it needs 3 in each chain to get it in time, any suggestions?
