      Hi,
I saw the video on putting the new engine in a 2007 Tahoe.

I too have an 07 Tahoe 4×4 with 135k miles. I am having a few issues
with v4->v8 mode shuttering at low speed, like rolling up to a stop sign and it stays in v4 all the way till 6-700rpm, feels
like it will stall, then switches to v8. Dealer thinks, Torq Conv, but still diagnosing…
I’m also noticing more oil consumption now, 1 qrt every 1200-1800 miles or so.

I really love this car and am considering doing the engine/tranny swap like the video.
How much would something like that cost and where/how do I get the new motor/tranny
like you showed in the video?
Any advice on how best to proceed.

I am not a mechanic, I would need someone to the install.

      Thanks, Tom

Jasper sells rebuilt engines. You can GOOGLE. COPART.com sells insurance wrecks. If you spend the time and effort and like auctions COPART may be your best bet as they move thousands of vehicles every day. Virtually every vehicle that is totaled by the insurance companies ends up at COPART and they are nationwide and sell world wide.

That said, you engine doesn’t have that many miles and one quart between changes is not serious. Oil consumption does not have to be rings. Could be valve stem seals. if you notice smoke mostly on start up then valve stem seals may be a possibility.

Oil consumption due to rings is a VERY common issue on any 07 Gen IV, we were doing sets of rings and pistons daily when they were under warranty. The first step was always replacing the driver’s valve cover and doing a piston soak with GM upper engine cleaner. That had about a 25% success rate if you wanna throw a Hail Mary.
The shuddering while decelerating can be an engine mount (fairly common the driver’s side engine mount to break), torque converter if it’s a 6 speed and then there’s a bulletin that the V4 to V8 shudder can be normal if you rule out other causes.

Your oil consumption is not great enough to warrant engine replacement . Back in the day , about 1 qt in 500 miles was what I used to consider the point for engine work .

            Any oil leaks ?

Do not know about the transmission issue .

            God bless

Honestly if you consider the availability of these vehicles you might be able to get a newer one that’s better equipped without issues. That said, if you’re looking to replace the engine and transmission, I’d say you’re looking in the neighborhood of 5-7K to have them installed by someone.
