Need good repair advice here. My car would not start recently. No crank. No Start. Ignition switch was getting a little hard to turn. Left me stranded. Had to get it towed. Battery voltage 12.7 good. Lights worked. No beeping when the key was put into the ignition. I think this is very important but I am not a Tech. I pulled the main relay from behind the glovebox and tried to test it from an online diagram but one of the contact blades was in a different position so test not appropriate for this year relay. I replaced the ignition switch with a new aftermarket one for automatic trans like mine. I did disconnect the battery first. I put the key in the new ignition lock cylinder and I heard healthy beeping. I turned the key to start it and just heard chatter from the starter. Battery cables clean but I adjusted them anyway. I tried again to turn it over and some lights came on on the instrument panel for a second and then everything went dead. Then I realized that I had not connected the main relay. What have I done to my car? Pulling the ECM fuse for hours does not make a difference. My OBD II scanner is not reading anything.

Have you tried tapping the starter. Your starter bushing are on the way out

Check all large fuses and fusible links (over 100 Amp) Sounds like you might have blown a main one.

            Good luck

You stated that the battery volts were 12.7… If you have the means, pull the battery and take it to your local auto parts store and have them check it. Charging it would be a good idea before is a good idea. Not saying it’s bad, but starter chatter always is my lead to a weak battery. Voltage can indicate good, but a weak cell inside can make it drop to Zero just by turning on the key (That’s the extreme, of course). Faster testing can be done with another vehicle and a set of jumper cables.

Checking the fuses is always a good ides like ToyotaKarl mentions. Test lights cost 10 buck or less, and I carry one in every vehicle I own. Worth the cost if you need to do some rapid troubleshooting and are not at home, or even if you are.

Last advice I can give is to check your work. Make sure no pins got pushed out of connectors and making sure that nothing got knocked loose elsewhere when changing that switch.

              Hope this helps…
