      hi!

      I drive a 2003 Civic Sedan with a D17.

I have a problem with my air con…
It only works at night or in the mornings/ late afternoons.

It will work fine on a hot night. But will not work in a hot day.

I have searched and found alot of honda owners have this issue but no one has a solution.

      🙁

Unfortunately A/C issues can be troublesome to diagnose without the proper tools and equipment. Things you can check are: Do both fans run when the A/C is selected on w/ engine running?, If the fans run then can you see the A/C compressor engaging? (There is a clutch mounted to the compressor that should cycle on and off), Can you hear a hissing sound inside the car with the A/C working?

+1 on the above posts. AC work can get complicated and without a proper set of gauges and the know how to read them you’re blind. You’re just guessing and wasting your time and money.

Been doing alot of testing to give accurate feed back.

Both fans runs: YES! (Always do!)
Yes! I can see/hear the clutch engaging and hice healthy CLACK!
Yes I do get hissing when it starts up – its gets nice and cold then.

When I expecince the lack of coolness the compressor does cycle on and off while driving.
I cant hear it disengause over road noise but I have noticed it coming back on.

Other then that its kinda been behaving its self.

That’s not uncommon. It’s illegal for the DIY to service AC in some countries.

Turns out my AC/Alternator belt is slipping (again!) I just fixed it.

I found the OEM bolt was replaced by some other bolt as I think during a service it was lost. (typical bad workmanship in this country which is why I do things)

                    So I will investigate.

                        :cheer:

                        Problem found!

I had a squeeing belt afew months afther purchaseing the car. I thought it was the belt so I purchased 2 new belts.

Going in I found that the belts were pretty new and I attempted to retighten them.

as I learned today the alternator is the tenchenor and back then I adjusted it incorrectoly as I dicoved one bolt which went into the block this wroked until this post…..

I found one bolt holds a bracket for the belt tenchon by pulling the alternator forwards.
then another bolt that “slides” to allow the tenchion.

This was COMPLEALY loose and I had not dicoved it the last time I was in there.

anyway I know how it works and the belt is now correctly tenchoned.

A whole lot of things are better.

No more bad idle (thought this was my iacv)
No more dimming lights at stop streets (with bad idle)
Lights are brighter. (dash and mains)
                        Better brakes at stop streets.
Car sounds quieter (I really dunno about that one)
Car charges at 14V (somtimes this would drop to 12V or 13V, I have an Apexi VAFC2 installed)
Cold AC!!! woohoo and its summer here!

Sorry for not taking any pics I kept it dirty and didnt want to touch my camara.
                        B)

That’s great news. I’m glad you found the problem and were able to fix it. Thanks for the updates and for using the ETCG forum.
