My friend has a 2000 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 16v and his complaint is once the engine warms up it begins to shudder, but the shudder goes away when the speed builds up?

      Any help apreciated! 🙂

The engine itself begins to shudder? Or something else, like the tires, etc.. Have you looked at the vehicle yourself?

It sounds like it could be possibly a misfire.

Is there any check engine light?

Maybe this video from Eric will help –

I also forgot to add this one as well –

try putting the car in drive with the emergency brake on. with the hood open and someone giving the car some gas see if the engine itself lifts up or clunks.
this will check to see if you have a motor mount broken or a transmission mount problem. good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers for the replies guys, haven’t had a chance to look at the car myself yet, and don’t know if I’d be the best at diagnosing as I’m only an aprentice :/

Don’t think it would be an engine mount as its only when the engine is warm,,

Leaving more toward a misfire/starting & charging system but don’t know why it would only start once the engine is at operating temperature, I’ll have a look at the vids after, saw all etcg vids but must refresh my memory 🙂

              Thanks, shaun

Have it scanned for any stored trouble codes. It’s probably a misfire.
We don’t have vauxhalls here in the states so it’s going to be harder for us.
Power braking it will let you feel a misfire under load most of the time if it’s an automatic (parking brake on, brake pedal pressed and take it up to 1500-2000 rpms)

Yea I don’t think it would be an engine mount either to be honest, I would do the power balance and voltage leak test to get you started, the video links dreamer posted will show you how to perform those tests. Keep us posted on what you find.
