EGR Problem ?

In 2010 I had an issue with my 1994 Ford 1.9 engine bucking at constant speeds of 30 to 45 MPH. I had disconnected the EGR vacuum hose and the problem cleared up. I replaced the valve with no result. I’ve seen some have removed it, capped it off and ran it with no valve. A good idea to do ? We have no more vehicle inspection here. I bought a new one right after the problem started but failed. The bucking was still present. Luckily the store let me return it. I know there’s other things associated with the valve other than the valve itself. There’s an small cylinder with an electrical connection plug on the firewall with the hoses going to and from it, I don’t remember the technical name for that since I never really gave any attention to it, pardon my stupidity, lol. Whether that plastic cylinder makes any difference with the problem is another issue. Any suggestions to what could be going on and what to check ? Thanks for any help.

what model Ford? If you removed the vacuum line and the problem
went away then vacuum is being applied maybe when it should not be.

There should be a vacuum solenoid. see if this helps.
            Follow the vacuum lines.

That was what I was referring to for the small plastic cylinder type electronic device on the fire wall with the small PCV hoses. Thanks for giving me the correct name. One more item, is it actually necessary to have the EGR valve operational, except for emission control ? Engine performance or gas mileage effected ? I never really thought so. Hope that makes sense. As I stated some people run their vehicles with them completely removed. Thanks for your comments.
