For $500 I don’t think I did too bad. Besides, I think it will make for some great video. What are your thoughts?

Interesting purchase. I hope that you do a 5-speed swap to either the Vigor or the Fairmont. You could even save that video for 2015 since it would be pricey and a special video.

I would expect you to paint the Vigor because it needs it and it would be a great set of videos. I read on a Camaro forum that tractor paint is a good option. It is inexpensive and it is very durable; a good option for many of us that don’t need the prettiest of paints. Then of course you could show us the importance of sanding the car and set up, etc.

I want to keep the Fairmont as stock looking as possible, so it probably won’t get a manual. If I did a manual swap with the Vigor, I would need more than just the transmission. I’d also need the ECU, clutch pedal stuff and a master cylinder, and possibly a new wiring harness. Showing the need for all those extra parts may help drive home the point I’ve made over and over when asked about doing a manual swap. It’s not as easy as people think, and is often more trouble than it’s worth. In short, I think the Vigor might be a nice cautionary tale for that very thing. I’d likely need to find a good donor car with a manual trans if that were to ever happen.

That actually would be nice. I will always have a soft spot for the Fairmont as it was my first car. Never left me on the side of the road and taught me a ton about repairing and maintaining cars. I bought it a year before I could legally drive and spent that year fixing it up and repairing every defect I could find. When I left for basic I gave it to the neighbor whose van had finally died. As far as I know it is still is on the road to this day.

The Vigor is worth it. We saw you get excited when talking about the 5 speed.

Hey Eric, big Eric the car guy fan here from Canada.

I realize I may be really late to the party here but I for one am very excited about you getting one of these cars. My uncle had one of these with the 5 cylinder years ago. It was the car I did my driving test on when I was 16… being a huge Honda fan of course I had to know everything about it.

That 5 banger was such an odd engine for Honda to produce. It’s almost like they looked at Volvo and said… “oh yeah? we can do that too!” and then never produced it again after the 2.5 TL.

I had a 3.2 TL and to be honest I prefered that 3.2 for its quietness and smoothness but I always regret not picking up a 2.5 TL. Having driven a couple in my day I can say I really enjoyed it.

Can’t wait to see more engine vids on this vigor! What a find! Apparently you know the mechanical history on it! 😆

Anyways… if you read this thanks, I really love the new “rebuilding a caliper” video. I love that you have your own camera man now. I really think that will add a lot to the eric the car guy videos.

Thanks for your comments. I hope to start shooting videos with the Vigor in a couple of weeks. I still have a couple more videos with the Fairmont to get though before those will air however. I’d like to get the car back on the road to see more of what it needs. I do have plans to cover some of the common problems with those cars. I know them pretty well as I worked on a few at the dealer.

Thanks again for your comments. I’m pretty happy about the new camera man myself.
