I have got an update for my post about the Taurus wagon, The customer called back and decided to junk out the car instead of spending the money to fix a car he only paid $800 for. So I toss the estimate away and move on, Well he recently called back and wants the work done to get his car back on the road.

I hope that your estimate was written in such a way that it financially punished this idiot for believing he had the right to place a death trap like this on a public road and endanger everyone else. Call it an “irritated mechanic” fee.

If I could do that I’d be rich.

I love it when the nine year old spare gets used for the first time.

What do you mean you won’t align it?

Is it just me or is that a jeep thing?

I lifted this Hyundai Santa Fe just high enough to shake it on the lift to make sure it’s solid on the lift arms. I pushed down on the RF wheel and the strut fell out. The customer told me that this wouldn’t have happened if I would have just done the oil change with the vehicle on the ground. There is such a thing as being right and stupid at the same time.

Had a guy come in with his pads on backwards.. i dont even know how he managed it. the nubs on the pad shims had dug into the rotor about a 1/4″. The guy lived less than a mile away and brought his car to us for a free brake check because “something didnt sound right”. Then tried to play it off like he had not had his brakes done, when you could clearly see the friction side of the pad had not a mark on it… He later admitted to what he did.. That was a $200 mistake he regretted.

Oh, and the people who do their own rear brake jobs with screw-in pistons trying to use c-clamps to compress them.. had to replace quite a few of those.[/quote]
I seen that before also with a 2003 Buick Roundevous, customer had his cousin replace the rear break pads and installed them on backwards. His cousin said it was a bad wheelbearing which it was not.Ended up replacing both rotors and the brake pads on this one.I seen the half assed brake jobs too,do one side and not the other.Drum brakes, adjusters installed in the wrong side and wonder why the rear brakes never worked. Some people need to have their tools taken away basically.I have seen brake calipers installed on the wrong side with the bleeder screw down.

Customer brought vehicle in claiming vehicle was extremely hard to start he suspected the fuel pump had or was going bad.

Fuel pump tested at 60 lbs pressure and no leak down.

Turns out his problem was 212k on the original plugs

This was a yummy throttle body

I had a gentleman I paid to put my engine back together stop when he attempted to put an engine mount on UPSIDE DOWN. (this on my Honda Civic.) I basically had to un-do what he did, did it myself spectacularly, and ate the loss of money.

Oil sending units go bad under the intakes of Kia Sorentos with 3.5 liter engines and it allows a hefty leak that looks like the engine has blown out a main seal. It also destroyed some furry woodland creature’s entire stock of kibble.

A good friend of mind told me a customer of his had a buick v6 recently rebuild by a drunken mechanic and the rods went out. When autopsied, the guy obviously had to much hooch before bottom end assembly and put rod caps on backwards. Funnier part about this… he is going to have him re-do it.. LOL. Thats when the CUSTOMER needs to be repaired, and the vehicle thrown away
