Monday I start my new career as a electrician(apprentice). I have been wrenching on cars in “professional” shops since I was 16 and I am 22 now. My toolbox got a ride home on the back of a flat bed on Thursday. I have NEVER worked flat rate but after being in a shop for 6+ years you can figure it out.

I am looking to kinda make to into a blog type thread for those interested in either career.
Ask me questions or give me advice, I’m here to learn and help others do the same.

Just doing the manual stuff no longer applies. On my side they’ve invested a lot on diagnostic tools for buses and truck and that’s for just a few european models (DAF, MAN, Volvo and Scania). Trucks are more complicated than cars and as things progress, it becomes harder to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. These tools teach you on what to do and point you in the right direction. You still have to do all the thinking though.

If you’re looking to make your own free forum, may I suggest http://www.forummotion.com. You still need to make a 24/7 website and post a link to it as I did. Took me months to figure it out. Having iWeb made it easy for me to setup a website.
Take a look at my site : http://www.dieselpumpspecialist.com

Hey Ozzy, congratulations! An electrician is a great career. If you can, try to get into the industrial/commercial side of the trade. Good industrial electricians need plenty of mechanical skill. You already have lots of experience there. I have seen problems that everyone was trying to fix electrically, that were caused by a mechanical failure. People who only have an electrical education have a hard time seeing the whole picture clearly. May I suggest you learn as much about PLC as possible. (programmable logic controllers) Another good thing is CNC (computer numerical control)
