Question for all ETCG fans – what is the highest mileage you’ve seen on a car with the original engine and transmission (not rebuilt)?

I had a customer with a Ford Crown Vic 4.6 lt. PI. that was a taxi with over 900.000 KL on it. approx. 540.000 miles. To my knowledge the engine and trans were original as he purchased it with 143.000kl on it.

Just got wiped out bout a month ago.

Thanks for the reply! I have a 99 ointiac grand am 3.4 v6 with 202,000 miles. Ive had the head gasket and seals replaced and im running regular coolant instead of dex. It has a slow coolant Leake which I think is from a heater hose. I relaced the upper and lower radiator hoses less than a year ago. Im hoping to get at least 400,000 miles out of it. I do the oil changes myself. Mobil 1 every 6 thousand.

My 1992 Jeep Cherokee has the original motor and transmission and the odomoter sits at 318,760 right now but its more than that as the speedo is off.

Yeah, I’ve heard 500,000 – 600,000 miles before the engine needed to be rebuilt.

Did you put all of those miles on yourself? Any tips for keeping an engine running that long?

No, I’m the third owner. As a tech and a witness to high mileage is basic maintenance, willingness to spend money to maintain and repair, as well as trying to fix problems as soon as they are found will keep most vehicles running for a long time.

My father owned a ’93 Chevy Lumina APV Mini van with over 320’000 Kms on it, original engine too.

Highest mileage vehicle I’ve ever driven was my best friend’s grandfather’s 1986 Toyota Turbo Truck. 420,000ish miles. Original motor and transmission but the turbo had been replaced or rebuilt a couple times and the body/frame is falling apart. The family has not decided what to do with the vehicle since the grandfather is no longer physically able to drive it. My friend and I are trying our hardest to claim it/buy it but it’s tricky to do that while being sensitive/respectful to the situation.

Highest I’ve owned was an 86 Jetta with over 380,000km on it and then the speedo stopped working. I still see that car driving around too.

Buddy of mine has an 89 Volvo 240 that’s probably touching 420,000km, and I know of an Audi 90 Quattro with over 600,000km on it.

On the complete opposite end of the scale one of the Toyota dealers near by has an original Carolla on the show room that not only looks mint – original tires – but has under 20,000km on it.
