Hello guys! i drive an honda crv 2000, and 3 days ago the drive light on the dashboard started to have problems, and i with problems i mean when i pick drive it wont turn on but all the others will, also when i first open the switch drive and parking lights ligh up wich means the bulb is not burned out i can also feel when i run the car its like a little bit heavier but it makes the changes smoothly as allways, i checked the oil and its full and clean im just kinda worried about that because i heard that if i ts blinking it means you need a new transmission, mine is not blinking, its just off.

Thanks for you help guys ๐Ÿ™‚

If the D4 light is blinking it would indicate that the transmission computer has logged a fault code. Those transmissions are not known for problems in my experience and when I do find a problem with them many times I find it’s because Honda transmission fluid was NOT used as recommended OR the transmission was overfilled at some point and caused the failure. You don’t check Honda transmission the same way as other makes, it needs to be checked after the engine has been warmed up on a level surface with the engine OFF not running as with other automatics, this is the reason I find that they get overfilled because the fluid level was not checked correctly.

In your case you’re going to have to find someone that is capable of pulling the code to see what kind of problem you have.

thanks alot man for that response but no, its not blinking it just doesn’t light up and then if i run over a bump it lights up and later it goes off again yesterday it slipped i was going about 80km/h when it slipped, it made a sound like it was on neutral so i just stopped accelerating and started again and it was ok, friend told me not to drive it he says its something that needs adjustment thanks for your help! ๐Ÿ™‚

I would check for trans mission codes as already stated as well as checking the condition of the fluid.

Usually automatic transmission slips are not a good sign.

I see. If that’s the case then it’s probably just a bulb issue, you would need to remove the cluster and replace the bulb for the D4 light to fix the bulb problem. As for the transmission slipping that would be something different altogether so I would check the transmission fluid condition and level as suggested in my last post for starters on that.

OK well if you don’t have any codes stored then there might be a mechanical problem with the transmission or torque converter, most electrical issues would be logged by the transmission computer. Just for the heck of it check all the fuses and try ‘wiggling’ them while the vehicle is ON and observe the D4 light (have someone with their foot on the brake and the truck in drive inside while you do this), if you wiggle a particular fuse and the light begins to flicker perhaps theres a connection issue at the fuse causing intermittent power to the transmission computer which seems a bit far fetched if I’m honest but it might explain what’s going on with it.

Make sure you use Honda fluid.

Hey guys i finally fixed my car, turns out it was low on oil… i was checking it with the engine on… sorry bout that… made the 3 changes and now its working smoothly. Eric; i live really far from the honda agency… and when i say far i mean take a 4 hours trip to get there… so i went to the local car shop and they recommended Valvoline max life… i made a little review before buying and throwing it in and ive seen many people saying thats its better than the z1 or in some other cases the amsoil… i was just wondering whats your opinion on it. thanks again guys ๐Ÿ™‚ loving the forum ๐Ÿ˜€

I disagree, I think you would have been better off ordering it online and getting it that way, I guess it’s better than nothing however. Thanks for keeping us up to date. BTW Honda now uses DW1.
