3rd Gen Honda CRV – rear passenger door won’t open due to the lock actuator failing mechanically. It still responses to the electronic lock buttons/fob, but will not actually unlock. So, door won’t open from inside or out and liftgate is also locked (security feature) because of it.

Got the inside panel off, can see the actuator but can’t remove it since the door is unopenable. Any one know how to get the door opened in this situation?

Might just be needing a general answer if anyone knows how to open a car door that cannot be unlocked. Is breaking the mechanism the only option?

I was able to get the door opened (which allowed the lift gate to open also). Had to basically tear up the lock actuator, eventually jamming a flathead screwdriver into the part where the locking “wire” went. Somehow it freed it up and the lock button suddenly worked. I then put on the new actuator.
