Newbie here: I’ve got a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that I bought used after by 2007 was T-Boned. The 2007 rode like a luxury sedan, but this 2006 rides a lot rougher. By “a lot rougher” I mean both the quality of the ride and the noise. Specifically, there is a definite “thunk” sound on the left front suspension when I go over a bump. It is more pronounced when I am turning – right or left – but it is there nonetheless.

The truck had 123,000 miles on it when I bought it, so I presume it could simply need new shocks, but it doesn’t ACT like it needs new shocks – at least, as far as I know. I would expect a lot of bouncing if the shock were worn out, but that’s not what happens. It’s just NOISE and less shock absorption than I had in the 2007. Frankly, it both feels and sounds like a buckboard, and this “thunking” on the left front has me very concerned.

      Suggestions? Guidance?

Sometimes when a collision happens the vehicle is never the same. You may still
have something bent or moved. How bad was the body repair? frame machine?

Lift both front wheels and support the vehicle on stands. Check for play on all suspension and steering components. You may need to use a prybar to really get in there to move and check some things out, and make sure that all the rubber parts are good and there’s no play on your joints or bearings. Especially check the steering gear is tightly mounted, no play in wheel bearings or ball joints, all component connections for play, and all rubber bushings are intact and pliable, not swollen or hardened. Check the bump stops to make sure they are intact, not hardened and/or cracked. Make sure all chassis parts are properly lubed and don’t have broken boots and lost their grease. The slightest amount of play can feel like enormous slop while driving and can definitely cause clunking and thumping noises when they change position.

sure sounds like ball joint problem, you need to check them.
