One of the ignition coils on my 04 Focus is going out and causing misfires. I plan to replace it but should I replace all 4 or just the one going bad? Also does brand matter? I usually shop at RockAuto and they offer the motorcraft coils but theyre too expensive

    My suggestion:
First buy 2, if one failed, Murphy’s law shows at least one other will also fail.
    As to brand…
You got 17 years from the factory equipment.
    Need I say more?

Normally Id agree with you, but I bought this car maybe 3 months ago and the dealer had no service history. It has had replacement coils at some point because two them have different style codes, one of them is the one that failed. I dont know how to decipher them so I couldnt say what brand any of them are.
