If you have clattering or tapping in your Mitsubishi 4G64 Engine, you probably need to replace the lash adjusters. This was my first time EVER working under a valve cover. But I went ahead with it. This engine is used in a lot of applications by Mitsubishi, Chrysler, I think some Korean cars, and forklifts use it also. Notable applications are the Mitsubishi Galant and the Eclipse Spyder GS.

First, make sure you have the problem. Listen to the audio in this video and see if it sounds like your engine.

It started just as pictures as I did the work last year. I decided to put descriptions along with it.

I used this video as a guide, it may also come in handy.

Here’s a video I did today after I had pulled the rocker rail. I showed the play in the lash adjusters that was causing the clatter.

And finally… An official Mitsubishi TSB on purging and cleaning them:

I’d also like to note that when putting the rockers back on you’ll probably want something to tap them into place since they seem to want to bind up. If you tap them side to side they seem to work back in easier.
