New car.. 99 Nissan Maxima. Ran fine first trip, now wants to have blinking CEL when warm and under throttle. !!

Followed a video guide. Power at at least 5 coils, I expect it to be at 6th one due to no P0306. It did throw P0305 once and.. 5th coil is AFTERMARKET. (An EBay non-Nissan coil. The three in the front are Nissan branded, says on the boot, and they have resistance. The EBay coil had NO resistance. I think the one next to it was also iffy but I’ll re-test.” Have not figured out how to get to the coil in the corner, closest the driver.

Did a “piston soak,” car runs better, wow that was a lot of smoke. Did not solve the problem (duh) and did it just because I had the plug out, to inspect. Looks good.. No oil, just looking slightly burned up but otherwise looks fine. Bone dry plugs and that’s good. (No oil. Though I don’t want any more sucked-in electrodes………….)

So. Advice? I know flashing Class A misfire is no good. Will two, three new NISSAN coils solve my issue? I’m looking to EBay for used, since money is a pinch…

To confrim a bad coil pack:
Suggest you switch it with a know good one and see if the miss fire follows the pack.

That’s a very good idea. Issue is, front and rear banks use diff coil packs, and rear has one “blocked in.”

This is the guide I used in checking for resistance. Again, the fronts have zero issue:

            Any other suggestions or ?

I’ll read the codes again when I get home.

I can hear muted “pops” sometimes. So, I know a misfits is happening .. 🙁

I’m assuming you have at least one coil pack that is working on each bank.
Use that as your test coil.

                :good:

Seems like there is either one bad coil for certain, or two bad coils side by side on that rear bank. Swapping them out and changing one for the other yield an exact same result. Its still P0300. Light even turns itself off after blinking sometimes.

And the one in the rear corner has other things on top of it.

So I ordered three new OEM coils today..

Sweet.. One of the actual Nissan OEM (OE?) coils just came.

If I had only one dead coil, I can get this licked (fixed) today…

BTW: Here are my three rear plugs.

I did have one dead coil. Let’s see the result of replacing it…

                      OK! Update:

Its now either P0303, or its all cleared up.

I *MAY* switch Cylinders 3 and 1.. but, I have new coil coming anyway.

                      Problem may be solved.

^^^ The top of the coil seems to have separated from the bottom in Cylinder number 2. It should be easy enough to get out..
