I recently acquired a 1995 Nissan Sentra, and having trouble determining whether the car is OBDI or OBDII…I have read many different sources saying that it’s both, but is there any way to tell which system the car uses?

Look under your hood and you should see a decal that provides engine size, emissions info, etc. It should state on that decal if it’s OBD II or I. Generally speaking OBD II was for 1996 and up model cars. If you have the owners manual it would be listed in there also under the engine spec. section.

Not sure about your 95, my 93 had an indicator light on the ECM it’s self. Turn the key on, stick a screwdriver in the switch on the ECM, turn clock wise. I believe that the lamp would flash two times, then turn counter clockwise, and watch the light flash. Turn the key off when you were done. Yours might show codes on the MIL lamp on the dash instead of an LED on the ECM it’s self.
