Just read the April Newsletter, and wow, if I hadn’t indulged in ETCG1 I’d be thrown off by how deep & insightful you are, Eric! I agree 100% with your analogy and wholeheartedly support your decision to take a breather for a while. You will find the answers you’re looking for, like you said, they’re right there in front of you, it’s just hard to see them when you’re in the thick of it.

If nothing else, hey man, you deserve a vacation 😉

All the best & stay dirty!

      – Jon

I agree, you definitely deserve time off. I don’t think anyone would hold it against you 😆

I don’t know what your “next big thing” is either, but I was thinking: you mentioned you’d like to buy another vehicle like a diesel Golf (maybe one that needs a little work?), make some videos on it, and pass it along. You should totally do this. Maybe a couple weeks out of a month, just do videos on this “project” car, that would be really cool. You could even start a fund like MCM did a while back to build one of their Daihatsus. I’m sure with 150k subscribers, surely a couple people would be willing to throw in a few bucks. I know I would. Maybe promise donors a few exclusive vids to encourage them.

Just a thought. Anyhow, here’s to 200k and beyond!

I’ve always been leerily about soliciting money from my viewers. My intention is to SAVE them money, not take it from them. I am on track to pick up a TDI of some sort and I do want to do that series. The order of events is like this however. First, I need to either fix my Odyssey once and for all or get a replacement. Once I’ve done this I can take my Element back from my wife and take the Subaru out of service while I pull the engine and trans to do the final videos on it. Well the final ‘planned’ videos on it. After that I need to put the money together to get the TDI. This will work differently than the Subaru videos because I’ll have a vehicle other than the TDI to drive which makes it easier to do videos with it. I hope to get something else after the TDI and keep going with that format perhaps even putting up to a vote the next vehicle I get to do projects and videos with.

It will happen. It just takes time. My biggest issue with ETCG right now is I have too much work and not enough time. This means I need to bring some new people in to help with production and other things ETCG. This will also take a little time but know I’m working on it.

          Thanks for the suggestions.

I appreciate your support. After looking at things however it might be May before I take that time off. I have some family stuff coming up in May and it would probably be better if I took the time then. In the mean time I still plan to work and develop a new strategy for ETCG. My main issue is at the moment I have too much work and not enough time. This means I need to start hiring people. I really wont’ be in a position to do that until May/June anyway.

Once again thank you for all your support.

I gotcha. But I reckon you’re more than that now. You’ve got people watching your videos who will likely never do the repairs they feature; they just want to see someone extremely knowledgeable doing some really great step-by-step repairs on a variety of different vehicles so they can gain a bit of background knowledge, and they’d be willing to contribute something to further that. Not to mention, contributing $5 towards your project is a lot better than spending the $500 you saved them on auto repairs.

              Just my 2¢.

I agree with lifeinhd. Allowing donations is a way for us to say thanks for the knowledge. Also you’ve earned some vacation time Eric-we’ll still be here when you get back.
